Macau logs US$3.2bln in revenue from gaming taxes in 1Q

The Macau government collected MOP25.80 billion (US$3.20 billion) in fiscal revenue from gaming in the first quarter of 2026, up 15.9 percent from a year ago, according to the latest data released by the city’s Financial Services Bureau.

The March figure from gaming tax was just above MOP8.87 billion, up 2.1 percent month-on-month, the data showed.

Macau’s casino GGR rose 4.5 percent year-on-year in February to MOP20.63 billion, according to official data.

Under Macau’s 10-year gaming concession system that started on January 1, 2023, the effective tax on casino GGR is 40 percent.

The latest data from the Financial Services Bureau show that gaming taxes accounted for nearly 89.8 percent of the Macau government’s MOP28.73 billion in current revenue recorded in the three months to March 31.

The tax-take figures for a given calendar period and the city’s casino GGR during the same time frame are not directly comparable for several reasons.

These include the fact that there is typically a delay between the point at which GGR is recorded by Macau’s casino operators and the point at which the government registers the corresponding tax payment.

The Macau government expects nearly MOP92.53 billion in revenue from gaming taxes this year. The tally in the first quarter this year represented about 27.9 percent of that amount.
